“The more you give to the community, the more it’s just going to be returned to you,” says Vacaville, Calif., operator Vince McAllister. He recently hosted a car show that showcased over 400 cars, drew almost 2,000 people and raised almost $10,000 for the family of a customer killed in a car accident. “Tough economic times is not when we need to pull back. This is when we need to give,” he said. “We're not afraid to get behind something to benefit someone other than ourselves. We’re trying to do the right thing for the right reasons.” Twenty groups of low riders, classic car buffs and hot rodders came from all over the area, with members contributing $20 to enter the best in show competition. The public made additional voluntary contributions. Vince was able to publicize the event at no cost on the same radio station he uses to promote Christian music concerts. He also placed posters all over town. Temperatures reached 70 degrees the day of the event, unusual for Northern California in winter. Cars were displayed on all four sides of the 60,000 square foot building that houses the center and other businesses. “It helps you when you go out and do something good for someone else. It’s a double blessing,” Vince said. “You’re not just blessing them. You’re actually receiving a blessing.”
