When the Make-A-Wish foundation contacted Tony Amarante, the San Jose, Calif., operator quickly took the lead in refurbishing Jesus Alcantar’s 1995 Civic. Charging only $900 for $3,000 in bodywork and paint, including shaving the door handles and completely changing the color, the 15-year franchisee helped keep the project under the foundation’s budget. “We went out to our vendors and they donated some of their time,” he added. The car also received stereo rims, an alarm and electric locks Two local newspapers recognized Tony for helping the Make-A-Wish Foundation give hope, strength and joy to a child with a life-threatening medical condition.
